When Alyanah was just two years old, she was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder that changed her life. The inherited condition altered the genes responsible for the structure and function of her muscles, causing progressive weakness and dystrophy. Alyanah did not require any medical treatment but had undergone a muscle biopsy for her condition. Her diagnosis had profoundly affected the family, leaving them deeply concerned about the uncertainty of her future. Alyanah is now 9 years old and is getting a little stronger by the day. However, she still requires a lot of assistance to complete daily tasks and is wheelchair dependent. As the family navigates the difficult road of progressive illness, one wish served as a comforting reminder of hope along the way.
Alyanah wished to have a home entertainment centre where her family could share priceless moments together from the comfort of their home. The time spent bonding over games formed beautiful memories that they would never forget. It was touching to see “Alyanah and her brother become closer to each other,” expressed her mother, Virgie. “They have a big age gap and when the gap is so big, it can be hard to get along. This wish makes them spend more time together and have fun with each other.” As Alyanah’s medical journey progresses, the family will continue to bond over the simple joys of a very special wish.
